چکیده
OMEGA (Observatoire pour la Minéralogie, l’Eau, les Glaces et l’Activité) is a visible and near-IR mapping spectrometer, operating in the spectral range 0.385.1 μm. Combining imaging and spectrometry, it will study the mineralogical and molecular composition of the surface and atmosphere of Mars through the spectral analysis of the diffused solar light and surface thermal emission. OMEGA will provide global coverage at medium-resolution (2-5 km) for altitudes from 1500 km to 4000 km, and high-resolution (< 350 m) spectral images of selected areas, amounting to a few percent of the surface, when observed from near-periapsis (< 300 km altitude). OMEGA will:

Geomorphic and Spectral Mapping of Northern Meridiani Planum
Introduction: Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC), Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA), Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS), and Mars Express Observatoire pour la Minéralogie, l’Eau, les Glaces et l’Activité (OMEGA) data were compiled and coregistered for analysis of a several hundred meter vertical section of plains, etched, and cratered units in the northern portion of Meridiani Planum. Five units...
متن کاملOlivine and pyroxene diversity in the crust of Mars.
Data from the Observatoire pour la Minéralogie, l'Eau, les Glaces, et l'Activité (OMEGA) on the Mars Express spacecraft identify the distinct mafic, rock-forming minerals olivine, low-calcium pyroxene (LCP), and high-calcium pyroxene (HCP) on the surface of Mars. Olivine- and HCP-rich regions are found in deposits that span the age range of geologic units. However, LCP-rich regions are found on...
متن کاملMartian surface mineralogy from Observatoire pour la Minéralogie, l’Eau, les Glaces et l’Activité on board the Mars Express spacecraft (OMEGA/MEx): Global mineral maps
[1] After 2 years of operation the Observatoire pour la Minéralogie, l’Eau, les Glaces et l’Activité (OMEGA) imaging spectrometer on board Mars Express has acquired data coverage of the Martian surface with spatial resolution varying between 300 m and 4.8 km, depending on the pericenter altitude of the spacecraft’s elliptical orbit. We report the global surface distributions of some minerals us...
متن کاملMars surface diversity as revealed by the OMEGA/Mars Express observations.
The Observatoire pour la Minéralogie, l'Eau, les Glaces, et l'Activité (OMEGA) investigation, on board the European Space Agency Mars Express mission, is mapping the surface composition of Mars at a 0.3- to 5-kilometer resolution by means of visible-near-infrared hyperspectral reflectance imagery. The data acquired during the first 9 months of the mission already reveal a diverse and complex su...

a r t i c l e i n f o a b s t r a c t The Mars Express Observatoire pour la Minéralogie, l'Eau, les Glaces et l'Activité (OMEGA) collected an unprecedented visible and near-infrared hyperspectral dataset covering the low albedo regions of Mars. We investigate the ability to infer modal abundance of surfaces of these regions from a radiative transfer model developed by Shkuratov et al. From OMEG...
